Hey everyone! Today, I'm excited to show you how to upgrade the control panel in your BMW 1 Series and 2 Series (2011-2016). This tutorial will guide you through each step to transform your older model BMW with a new, modern control panel. Let's get started!

Step 1: Preparation

Before you begin, make sure you have all the necessary tools and parts:

  • New control panel compatible with 2011-2016 BMW 1 Series and 2 Series
  • Trim removal tools
  • Screwdrivers (Phillips and flathead)
  • Electrical tape
  • Zip ties

Step 2: Remove the Original Air Vent

First, remove the original air vent. Use your trim removal tools to carefully pry it off, then unplug the connector at the back.

Step 3: Unscrew and Remove the Button Panel

Next, unscrew the two screws securing the original button panel and take it out. Unplug the connector at the back.

Step 4: Remove the Original Head Unit

Unscrew the screws securing the original head unit and take it out. Unplug all the connectors at the back.

Step 5: Remove the Original Screen

Unscrew the screws securing the original screen. Lift the screen out from the top and unplug the LED connector at the back.

Step 6: Install the New Power Cable

Feed the new product's power cable from the bottom up and install the base. Connect the LVDS connector to the back of the new screen, then connect the white power plug and other cables to the new screen.

Step 7: Insert the New Screen

Insert the screen from the top down and secure the base with screws. Connect one end of the new power cable to the original connector.

Step 8: Reattach the Head Unit

Reattach all the small connectors at the back of the original head unit, then plug the new power cable into the head unit. Reinsert the head unit and secure it with screws.

Step 9: Reinstall the Button Panel and Air Vent

Reconnect the connector at the back of the button panel, install the button panel, and secure it with screws. Reconnect the connector at the back of the air vent and install the air vent.

Step 10: Final Check

Here’s the final result! Once installed, the Android system still has no sound. Enter the original system, find the sound settings, enter AX, and confirm. Now, when playing music, there is sound.

Features of the New System

The upgraded control panel supports a variety of functions:

  • Digital dashboard with various color themes
  • Support for parking sensors and reversing cameras if your car has them
  • Map navigation and other installable navigation apps
  • Bluetooth calling with steering wheel controls to answer or hang up
  • Retains original car mouse control
  • Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Voice assistant for making calls, playing music, using navigation, and other mobile apps

This is the Android 11 system, bringing a sleek, modern interface to your BMW.
