Upgrading my 12-year-old Golf 6 with a factory original large touchscreen (model 187B) was quite an experience, and here's how I did it. Initially, I removed the CD player's faceplate to expose the internals.
Then, I unscrewed the four screws holding the CD player in place and disconnected the power plug. The original car's power plug was smaller, necessitating the use of an adapter cable.
Next, I connected the two data cables to the network manager’s plug and proceeded to remove the ventilation ducts to access the network manager’s plug more easily.
After disconnecting the network manager’s plug and removing its outer shell, I connected the two data buses to the network gateway plug, then reattached the shell and plugged it into the network gateway.
With the network connections in place, I hooked up the SCUMAXCON RCD360 unit to the power plug and secured it with four screws. The installation of the central control unit’s frame followed, snapping securely into place with a simple inward push.
Finally, it was time to power up and test the system. I connected a mobile interconnect card to enable CarPlay functionality and ran a complete system check. The upgrade was successful, and my Golf 6 now boasts a modern touch with the rcd360 large screen control unit seamlessly integrated into its dashboard.
