Hello, everyone! Today, we're going to show you how to upgrade the infotainment screen on a 2017 Jeep Compass with Apple CarPlay. This upgrade will bring modern connectivity and functionality to your vehicle. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Preparation

Before we dive in, let's take a look at the original infotainment system and the tools you'll need for this installation:

  • Trim removal tools
  • Screwdrivers (Phillips and flathead)
  • The new infotainment screen and its power cables

Step 2: Remove the Silver Frame

First, remove the silver frame surrounding the infotainment system using your trim removal tools.

Step 3: Unscrew the Original Screen

Next, unscrew the four screws holding the original screen in place.

Step 4: Remove the Original Screen

Gently take out the original screen and disconnect all the plugs on the back. The screen is now fully removed.

Step 5: Remove the Air Vents

Remove the air vents from the silver panel and install them onto the new unit.

Step 6: Start Connecting the Wires

Now, it's time to start connecting the wires:

  • GPS antenna: Route it to the A-pillar.
  • Radio antenna
  • Video input cable
  • USB cables: There are two of these, and they should be routed to the glove compartment.
  • RCA audio cable

Step 7: Connect the Communication Plug

Connect the communication plug on the new power cable and then connect the protocol box.

Step 8: Connect the Speaker

Next, connect the speaker.

Step 9: Connect the Screen Power

  • Black plug: This is for screen power.
  • Connect the original radio plug.
  • Connect the reverse camera plug to the video input cable.
  • Finally, connect the original power plug.

Step 10: Install the New Unit

After all the connections are made, install the new unit into the dashboard.

Step 11: Setup the Protocol Settings

Before using the new screen, you need to set up the protocol settings:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Click Factory Settings.
  3. Enter the password.
  4. Click Protocol Settings.
  5. Select Protocol Scheme.
  6. Select Car Series.
  7. Select Specific Model Year.
  8. Click Confirm.

Step 12: Verify Functionality

Once the protocol is set up, the new screen will synchronize AC data, show safety alerts when doors are open, and support the original reverse camera and parking sensors with real-time steering trajectory.

Step 13: Test the New System

Ensure that the following functions are working:

  • Steering wheel button control
  • Screen volume control
  • Video playback (local and apps)
  • Online radio stations
  • Local and online map apps
  • DSP for audio quality adjustment
  • Bluetooth calls and music
  • Wireless CarPlay, Android Auto, and Huawei HiCar

Use the voice assistant to make calls, listen to music, use online maps, and access other phone apps.
