In UNSER BLOG 0 Kommentar

Hey everyone! Today, I'm super excited to show you how to upgrade the central control screen in your 2010-2016 BMW MINI to include wireless CarPlay. This upgrade will give your older MINI a modern touch, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics. Let's get started!

Step 1: Preparation

Before we dive in, make sure you have all the necessary tools and parts:

  • Wireless CarPlay module compatible with 2010-2016 BMW MINI
  • Trim removal tools
  • Screwdrivers (Phillips and flathead)
  • Electrical tape
  • Zip ties

Step 2: Remove the Panel Next to the Glove Compartment

First, remove the panel next to the glove compartment. This will expose the screws underneath. Use your trim removal tools to carefully pry off the panel.

Step 3: Unscrew the Panel

Once the panel is removed, unscrew the two screws located underneath it.

Step 4: Remove the Bottom Panel of the Glove Compartment

Next, remove the bottom panel of the glove compartment by unscrewing the two screws at the corner. Take out the small panel to access more screws.

Step 5: Remove the Glove Compartment

Unscrew the five screws holding the glove compartment in place. Carefully take out the glove compartment and unplug the light connector.

Step 6: Remove the Right Silver Panel

Remove the right silver panel in the middle. Unscrew the four screws securing the right side of the central frame.

Step 7: Remove the Keyhole Panel

Go to the driver's side and partially remove the keyhole panel. You don't need to remove it completely, just enough to access the screws.

Step 8: Remove the Left Silver Panel

Remove the left silver panel. There are four screws on this side, corresponding to those on the right side. Unscrew them.

Step 9: Remove the Vent Cover Plug

Remove the vent cover plug. Inside, you'll find a screw that needs to be removed. Take it out and then start removing the original radio panel.

Step 10: Remove the Original Radio Panel

First, remove the outer frame and unplug the hazard light connector. Then, remove the vent and the screw at the base of the radio panel. Unscrew the remaining screws securing the base of the radio panel.

Step 11: Remove the Central Frame

Pull the central frame out slightly to access the remaining screws and remove the rest of them. You can now remove the base frame.

Step 12: Remove the Radio

Unscrew the three screws holding the radio. Be aware that the radio is connected to the main unit; remove both together. Unplug all the wires from the back of the radio and main unit.

Step 13: Transfer the Hazard Button

Remove the hazard button from the old frame and install it on the new screen frame.

Step 14: Connect the Wires to the New Screen

Start connecting the wires to the new screen. This includes the video input cable, USB cable (route it to the glove compartment during installation), RCA cable, communication cable, and the red and white audio plugs. Also, connect the screen power plug and the radio antenna.

Step 15: Reinstall the Base Frame

Reinstall the base frame we removed earlier. Secure it properly.

Step 16: Connect the New Power Cable

Connect the new power cable plug to the original main unit plug. Push the central frame back into place and screw it in.

Step 17: Reinstall the Central Frame and Panels

Reconnect the original hazard light plug and the original radio connector to the new screen. Install the new screen and reinstall the two silver panels. Put the driver's side key panel back in place and re-secure the base frame screws.

Step 18: Final Assembly

Reinstall the vent and the screws, being careful to use a magnetic screwdriver if possible to avoid dropping screws. Reconnect the glove compartment light and screw the glove compartment back in place. Replace all the screws and panels you removed.

Step 19: Test the New Screen

Before wrapping up, test the new screen to ensure everything is working correctly. Check the radio, local and online maps, Bluetooth phone and music, DSP sound adjustment, and wireless CarPlay functionality.

Step 20: Enjoy Your Upgraded MINI

Once you've confirmed that everything is working, you're done! Your 2010-2016 BMW MINI now has a modern central control screen with wireless CarPlay, giving you a more connected and enjoyable driving experience.
