Hello everyone! Today, we’re diving into an exciting upgrade for your 2013-2015 Mercedes-Benz ML or GL. We'll be upgrading the control screen, a fantastic way to modernize your vehicle with the latest tech. Let's walk through the process step-by-step, ensuring your car looks and functions at its best.

Removing the Old Control Screen

Step 1: Removing the Air Conditioning Control Panel

First, we'll start by removing the air conditioning control panel. This gives us access to the components we need to work on. Carefully pull it off to avoid damaging any clips or connectors.

Step 2: Removing the Silver Decorative Frame

Next, take off the silver decorative frame surrounding the control screen. This frame is typically held in place by clips, so gently pry it off.

Step 3: Unscrewing the Main Unit

With the frame removed, you'll see two screws securing the main unit. Remove these screws and pull the main unit halfway out. This will expose the connectors on the side.

Step 4: Disconnecting Connectors

Unplug the connectors on the side of the main unit. Then, completely remove the main unit and disconnect the power plug at the back.

Step 5: Removing the Air Vents

Unscrew the two screws fixing the air vents. Use a flathead screwdriver to insert into the side of the air vent and press against the metal clips inside. Both sides have these clips. Once released, you can detach the air vents.

Step 6: Removing the Original Screen

Unscrew the two screws holding the original screen and remove it. Unplug the LVDS and power connectors at the back. Your dashboard should now look empty and ready for the new installation.

Installing the New Control Screen

Step 1: Installing Metal Brackets

Now, let’s start with the new components. Install the metal brackets where the original screen was. Each side is fixed with a screw, providing a sturdy base for the new screen.

Step 2: Connecting the New Power Unit

Find the main unit’s power plug and remove the fiber optic plug on top. Plug the fiber optic connector into the new power unit’s head. Connect the new power unit’s female connector to the main unit, and then insert the new power unit’s male connector into the original main unit.

Step 3: Routing Cables

Route the white screen power connector to the metal location, making sure the wire reaches the hardware location without getting tangled.

Step 4: Connecting the AUX Output

Plug in the army adapter cable into the army port inside the armrest box. Then connect the new power supply’s AUX output to the army adapter cable. This ensures your car's audio system will function properly with the new setup.

Step 5: Connecting the LVDS Adapter Cable

Connect the original LVDS plug to an adapter cable. Install the new air vent panel with the four screws provided. Secure it tightly.

Step 6: Final Connections

Connect the LVDS adapter cable and the white power connector to the new control screen. Align the new screen’s clips with the air vent slots and install it. Reinstall the air conditioning control panel, reconnecting the side connectors of the main unit. Put the main unit back in place and finally, install the silver decorative frame.

Setting Up the New System

Step 1: Switching Audio Output

We just connected the AUX adapter, so now we need to switch the audio output. Enter the original car system, select "Audio," and click on "AUX." This routes the audio correctly through the new system.

Step 2: Demonstrating New Features

Now, let's explore some of the exciting new features:

  • Local Maps and Online Map Apps: Supports both local maps and downloadable online map apps.
  • Air Conditioning Information: Real-time display of the car’s air conditioning settings.
  • Bluetooth Capabilities: Supports Bluetooth calling and music.
  • Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto: Enjoy wireless CarPlay, Android Auto, and Huawei HiCar.
  • Voice Assistant: Use voice commands to make calls, listen to music, and use various apps from your phone.
  • Reversing Camera Support: The system supports the original car’s reversing camera, and if not available, you can add one.

And there you have it! A complete upgrade to your Mercedes-Benz ML or GL’s control screen, packed with modern features to enhance your driving experience.
