Hello, everyone! Today, I'm excited to share with you a step-by-step guide on how to upgrade the NTG4.5 control screen in a 2006-2013 Mercedes S-Class. This upgrade will bring modern features to your car's infotainment system, making your driving experience much more enjoyable.
Getting Started
First things first, let's take a look at the original control screen. It's functional, but it's time for an upgrade!
Removing the Panels
- Driver's Side Cover Panel: Start by removing the cover panel on the driver's side. Once removed, you'll find a screw underneath. Unscrew it.
- Passenger's Side Cover Panel: Repeat the same process on the passenger's side.
Removing the Trim Pieces
- Instrument Cluster Trim: Remove the three trim pieces located above the instrument cluster. This will expose the small air vent below, which you should also remove. You'll find a securing screw inside—unscrew it.
- Large Panel: With the screws removed, you can now take out the large panel.
Control Buttons and Original Screen
- Control Buttons: Unscrew the screws securing the control buttons and take them out. Unplug the connector on the back.
- Original Screen: The original screen is held by two screws. Unscrew them and carefully take out the screen, unplugging all the connectors on the back.
Removing the Original Air Vent and Head Unit
- Air Vent Panel: Remove the large panel of the original air vent. You'll see five connectors on the back—unplug four of them.
- Head Unit: Remove the small panel and retractable cover. The cover has four screws, two of which are hidden. Once removed, you can pull out the head unit by loosening its four screws. Unplug the necessary cables, including the power connector and the optical fiber connector.
Installing the New Components
- New Power Cable: Route the new power cable by passing its white end through the head unit slot, into the air vent slot, and then along the gap to the screen position above.
- Decoder Box: Since this car can't transmit sound via AUX, install a decoder box. Connect an adapter to the original optical fiber and then to the transfer cable. Insert the other end of the transfer cable into the back of the new power unit and plug it into the head unit.
Final Connections and Reassembly
- Connecting Cables: Connect the new power unit to the original head unit power, then push the head unit back in, ensuring all cables fit properly. Connect the transfer cable and the decoder box power cable to the decoder box.
- Trunk Work: In the trunk, find the TV unit in the left side compartment. Unplug the optical fiber connector and install a loopback adapter on it.
Finishing Up
- New Screen Installation: Find the white connector on the new power unit and connect it to the original button connector. Attach the small speaker for Bluetooth calls, then install the new screen by connecting the LVDS cable and the white power connector.
- Securing Panels and Screws: Secure the new screen with two screws. Restore the air vent by reconnecting all the unplugged connectors and aligning and securing it with its clips. Reinstall the trim pieces above the instrument cluster and the large panel below the screen. Finally, secure the head unit again with the four screws and replace the retractable cover and small cover panels on both sides.
Post-Installation Adjustments

Settings Adjustments: Don't rush to test it yet. Enter the settings menu and navigate to the factory settings. Enter the password: 8888. Adjust the original car interface settings and the original car resolution settings to match your S-Class model. Confirm your settings and ensure the Android system has sound.

Testing and Enjoying the Upgrade: Switch to the Android system, test the sound quality, and adjust the sound settings to your preference. This new system supports various features like the original backup camera, door safety alerts, air conditioning information synchronization, digital dashboard, map navigation, movie playback on the big screen, wireless CarPlay, Android Auto, Huawei HiCar, and more. You can also use the voice assistant for making calls, playing music, using online maps, and other smartphone apps.
